Usually we're all comfortable playing the songs, but during the song there might be one part where you're like โoh, this part's coming up, I have to really focus", a lot of songs have those moments in them.

John PetrucciIt's a balance between getting the right string gauge that's thick enough where it sound good, and not rubber bands - but not too thick where your hands start to get real tired.

I try to practice like a well rounded regiment of things where I can kind of do whatever I wanna do and I also have to practice the actual songs to keep that under my fingers as well.

You grab a piece of paper and there it is. It's the cheapest recording equipment you can buy: a piece of manuscript paper and a pencil!
