This is God's universal purpose for all Christian suffering: more contentment in God and less satisfaction in the world.

When I believe in Jesus, I am united to Christ. Therefore, what he did and achieved becomes mine by this union through faith alone. His righteous life is imputed to me. What Christ achieved is counted as mine.

All of history is moving toward one great goal, the white-hot worship of God and His Son among all the peoples of the earth. Missions is not that goal. It is the means. And for that reason it is the second greatest human activity in the world.

Sleep is a daily reminder from God that we are not God. Once a day God sends us to bed like patients with a sickness. The sickness is a chronic tendency to think we are in control and that our work is indispensable. To cure us of this disease God turns us into helpless sacks of sand once a day.

My Paradise: With Christ. Not sinning. No pain. New earth. Precious in that order.

We belittle God when we go through the outward motions of worship and take no pleasure in His person.

Some of you will die in the service of Christ. That will not be a tragedy. Treasuring life above Christ is a tragedy.
