Keep a light, hopeful heart. But ­expect the worst.

For memory is a moral action, a choice. You can choose to remember. You can choose not.

Much of my writing is energized by unresolved memories - something like ghosts in the psychological sense.

Acting is the loneliest profession I know.

This is my life now. Absurd, but unpredictable. Not absurd because unpredictable but unpredictable because absurd. If I have lost the meaning of my life, I might still find small treasured things among the spilled and pilfered trash.

Not to be alone. To be spared the possibility of knowing oneself, in aloneness.

Not even the most devastating truth can be told; it must be evoked.
