Water seeks its own level and water rises collectively

Progress, not perfection, is what we should be asking of ourselves.

We have this idea that we need to be in the mood to write. We don't.

Rather than being taught to ask ourselves who we are, we are schooled to ask others. We are, in effect, trained to listen to others’ versions of ourselves.

At it's essence, art is an alchemical process. Alchemy is a process of transformation.

When it was suggested that I write a memoir I said, 'I'm not old enough. I'm not distinguished enough.' But I went home and sat down to write, and the material for the book just came flooding into my hands.

It hurts like hell when the world won't invest in you. But it's excruciating, almost more than you can bear, when you don't believe and invest in yourself.
