When the great Tao is abandoned, benevolence and righteousness arise.

But in the present day men cast off gentleness, and are all for being bold; they spurn frugality, and retain only extravagance; they discard humility, and aim only at being first. Therefore they shall surely perish.

Can you let go of words and ideas, attitudes and expectations? If so, then the Tao will loom into view.

He who hoards much loses much.

. . . the mind is desperate to fix the river {of events} in place: Possessed by ideas of the past, preoccupied with images of the future, it overlooks the plain truth of the moment.

It is wisdom to know others. It is enlightenment to know oneself.

Harmony is called the eternal. Knowing the eternal is called clarity.
