The people suffer from famine because of the multitude of taxes consumed by their superiors. It is through this that they suffer famine.

The eye with which you see God is the same eye with which God sees you; one in seeing; one in knowing; one in loving.

The Way of the Sage is to act but not to compete.

Do not make them (people) weary at their work. If you do not make them weary, they will not be weary of you.

We desire to understand the world by giving names to the things we see, but these things are only the effects of something subtle.

When the world is ruled according to the Way, the ghosts lose their power. The ghosts do not really lose their power, but it is not used to harm people.

Those who are content suffer no disgrace.
