I was born in a little village in the south of Holland called Mierlo. It was great growing up in Mierlo. It's a lovely little town where you can run around in the streets and climb trees and all that stuff when you're a kid. Then, when you're a teenager, it's not so fun. But I moved to Paris when I was very young.
Lara StoneYou don't really realize why you get attracted to certain people, and I do think scent has more to do with it than we realize.
Lara StoneI would probably advise myself 10 years ago not to take life too seriously and to just try to be happy.
Lara StoneThey always, always, always curl your lashes, because it really helps open your eyes and make you look awake. Moisturizing is very important. And what they usually do at shows is they spray some water or Caudalie face spray, which smells really nice. They spray that over your face and make that a bit more fresh and dewy-looking so it's a bit less powdered.
Lara StoneIn school I was always the funny-looking, tall, skinny kid that got made fun of because of my weird teeth.
Lara StoneEvery time I wake up I have this huge dreadlock in the back, and I don't know why. It's not like I sleep like a maniac or anything. It gets knots out really easy, and it's handy.
Lara StoneI listen to all of my Dutch happy-hardcore songs from my raving techno days when I was about 14. It's the most horrible music ever. I think it's some kind of muscle memory that brings me back to when I was 14. It makes me bounce around the gym quite happily.
Lara StoneI was pretty self-conscious about my body because everybody kept going on like, "Oh, she's so curvy!" and "She's a plus-size model!" and this and that. It's all people would talk about - how I'm not very skinny. For a while, it made me pretty upset and I got a bit obsessive about it. I did a bunch of dieting and exercising and everything. I was losing weight, but I was still much bigger than everybody else. I didn't really see the point of making myself crazy anymore, so I kind of toned it down a little bit.
Lara StoneMen don't like me. I haven't been on a date for six months. I've just started a club with a girlfriend called the We Hate Men But We Can't Be Gay Club.
Lara StoneMy favorite would have to be concealer, which I don't think anyone can live without these days. I use the CK One concealer as well as their One color face makeup. It's brilliant. It's super natural, and it makes it look like you don't have any makeup on.
Lara StoneI think it's great in any job to be doing well and doing it the best that you can, so that's pretty great. But I wouldn't call myself a celebrity in any way. I'm just doing my job.
Lara StoneMost people can be made to look beautiful - someone can do your hair nice and put some make-up on - but being sexy is something inside and not everybody has it. I don't think I ever really had it, a lot of it is to do with confidence.
Lara StoneIt's not like I'm sitting at home coming up with some secret beauty plan. I try to eat fruit and be healthy. If I'm feeling a bit sickly, I usually get a good spray tan.
Lara StoneI hate walking down a runway in really high heels. I'm terrible in high heels. I'm so bad.
Lara StoneI have a dream: that in my job, everything goes a bit faster. Five minutes hair, make-up five minutes, ten minutes and ready for a good picture. That would make life much easier.
Lara StoneWith this job, always traveling on the plane and everything, I thought it would be really difficult to quit drinking on my own because you're always in situations where it's acceptable to have drinks. So I decided right after a show that I was going to go into treatment. I Googled a bunch of places, and I found this place that I went to in Cape Town, South Africa, called Stepping Stones. I stayed there for a month. It was really difficult-lots of talking and crying.
Lara StoneI did quite a bit of running before, but it's getting really cold so I joined a gym. I do a bit of swimming and I'm starting to do yoga again.
Lara StoneSometimes when you do a show or a campaign with a designer, you get along with them really well and you become friends. And then, sometimes, people are just a bit... weird.
Lara StoneWhen I was the first time for a job in New York, I saw Natalia Vodianova on an oversized billboard in Times Square on a Calvin Klein billboard.
Lara StoneIf I could have the discipline to be super-skinny, I would be. I think of dieting, then I eat pizza. I'm a woman, and every woman wants to be skinnier โ unfortunately.
Lara StoneI find it quite hard for me to pull off. It's so nice to have a tan and look healthy and glowing. I'd quite like to look like Karen Elson - she looks good pale. I feel like I look a bit washed out.
Lara StoneWe're shooting bathing suits down here in St. Barts of course, I do get extra self-conscious. But I'm still here. If there were really something wrong with me, then they wouldn't fly me over here to do this kind of thing - and they can use Photoshop and make me look nice.
Lara StoneIf I had to model clothes in a time period other than the 21st century, I think I'd like to model way back when they just wore skin loincloths. That would be best suited for me - better than corsets. I'm quite claustrophobic.
Lara StoneWe've worked together with Carine Roitfeld a lot; she's been a big supporter and helped me along with everything. Also, just the way she does her magazine - she's not afraid to do things differently or scared to put certain things in her magazine, a bit of controversy. She's a bit naughty. She likes sexy things.
Lara StonePeople found me ugly and weird looking. All those years of that whole insecurity thing just makes you feel horrible then really slowly you start to think if they can make me look nice in the picture then it's not that bad.
Lara StoneIt's quite nice to have a bit more color on the lips during wintertime. And it's festive, isn't it?
Lara StoneWhat should all men know about women? That we are always right and you should just agree.
Lara StoneI feel guilty about smoking way too much - and I have a bit of an addiction to chocolate milk shakes, which is not good.
Lara StoneYou can definitely aid the message that you want to send to people by what scent you're wearing.
