I didn't really think I would be a musician. I always thought I'd be a writer. I wanted to be a writer in college, but I thought I could be a better musician. I loved the process of writing music and lyrics more than I loved the process of sitting at my computer and writing. Because of that, I thought I would be a better musician than a writer.

I just woke up one day when I was six and I wanted to play the violin. Then, six years later, I didn't want to play the violin, but I wanted to sing and play the guitar.

You meet people who are great to hang with, and you just want to make stuff. So, you just make stuff. I never would have seen that coming. I guess at this point, I can't say that I'm really picky about it. If someone wants to work with me, I'm psyched. As far as who I might call, I don't know. I've never thought about it. Maybe I don't feel like I'm able to ask. That hasn't crossed my mind. I'm that girl who waits to be invited to the dance. I'm not doing any inviting myself, if that makes any sense.

I hate being in New York in August. It's so hot, and there's no one around. I make it my mission to never play in August. Everyone else is on vacation anyway. It's a good time to not be on the stage and to just prepare for the fall, which is the best.

I was raised on The Beatles. I loved Led Zeppelin growing up. Judy Garland. Doris Day. That's where things began. I took a lot from the '60s and maybe from the '40s or '50s as well.
