It is horrible! It is not the suffering and the death of the animals that is horrible, but the fact that the man without any need for so doing crushes his lofty feeling of sympathy and mercy for living creatures and does violence to himself that he may be cruel. The first element of moral life is abstinence.

Nowadays, as before, the public declaration and confession of Orthodoxy is usually encountered among dull-witted, cruel and immoral people who tend to consider themselves very important. You have come into good company where people are contented and know what they are doing; if you find it dull and repulsive - go away!

Joy can only be real if people look upon their life as a service and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness.
