Especially with a comedy, you've got the clear cut goal of trying to make a scene funny. It's not like drama where you're trying to achieve some kind of emotion or trying to further the story along. You're trying to figure out what's the funniest way to do something.

It's nice, though, getting older and being able to do different roles.

You're just playing a role, whether it's a drama or a comedy. I find it really fun to sort of play opposite Uma.

I just always wanted to stay busy.

My dad was in a fraternity back in the 1950s, and they sound really fun back then. Nowadays they sound like they can get a little heavy-duty in terms of the hazing and the drinking. Im not so much into the idea of being made to do a bunch of insane stuff just so I can have the privilege of hanging around certain people... Thats probably why I was never in a fraternity.

To me it comes naturally, the peaks and valleys, sadness with happiness. I've definitely had periods, maybe, where I haven't been happy. Whether it's from a breakup or the good, old-fashioned blues - but I wouldn't say clinically depressed.

Oh, absolutely. James Caan was the first movie star I'd ever met, much less worked with. He was an important person to me and my brothers and Wes. Bottle Rocket was the first movie for all of us. As you know, back then, [Caan] was having some career changes, I think.
