You can't keep a cool head when you're drowning in love. You just trash around a lot and scream, and wear yourself out.
Margaret AtwoodI never have [suffered writerโs block], although Iโve had books that didnโt work out. I had to stop writing them. I just abandoned them. It was depressing, but it wasnโt the end of the world. When it really isnโt working, and youโve been bashing yourself against the wall, itโs kind of a relief. I mean, sometimes you bash yourself against the wall and you get through it. But sometimes the wall is just a wall. Thereโs nothing to be done but go somewhere else.
Margaret AtwoodDon't misunderstand me. I am not scoffing at goodness, which is far more difficult to explain than evil, and far more complicated. But sometimes it's hard to put up with.
Margaret AtwoodToday on the way home, it snows. Big, soft caressing flakes fall onto our skin like cold moths; the air fills with feathers.
Margaret AtwoodI'm not an activist by nature. I am suspicious of Utopian thinking and equally suspicious of its alternate. I would prefer to stay in the Writing Burrow and play with my imaginary friends and enemies. I get sucked into these things.
Margaret AtwoodI think the main thing is: Just do it. Plunge in! Being Canadian, I go swimming in icy cold lakes, and there is always that dithering moment. "Am I really going to do this? Won't it hurt?" And at some point you just have to flop in there and scream. Once you're in, keep going. You may have to crumple and toss, but we all do that. Courage! I think that is what's most required.
