Violence never really deals with the basic evil of the situation. Violence may murder the murderer, but it doesnโt murder murder. Violence may murder the liar, but it doesnโt murder lie; it doesnโt establish truth. Violence may even murder the dishonest man, but it doesnโt murder dishonesty. Violence may go to the point of murdering the hater, but it doesnโt murder hate. It may increase hate. It is always a descending spiral leading nowhere. This is the ultimate weakness of violence: It multiplies evil and violence in the universe. It doesnโt solve any problems.
Martin Luther King, Jr.Every man of humane convictions must decide on the protest that best suits his convictions, but we must all protest.
Martin Luther King, Jr.As long as the mind is enslaved, the body can never be free. Psychological freedom, a firm sense of self-esteem, is the most powerful weapon against the long night of physical slavery.
Martin Luther King, Jr.I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day, even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into a oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by content of their character. I have a dream today!
