So immediately I'm trying to think: What are some of these times when we feel we're losing our hold on Christ, and what's the fear we're trying to address? I try to get into that quickly.

Yes, your family history has some sad chapters. But your history doesn't have to be your future. The generational garbage can stop here and now.

It was a matter of going back through a lot of sermons and remembering the questions and conversations, where these ideas came from. So the book [Max on Life] is really kind of a second chance to answer these questions.

I think that a church should be setting the pace for social justice.

Don't worry about having the right words; worry more about having the right heart. It's not eloquence he seeks, just honesty.

I don't have a lot of time in the sermon anyway. The sermon is only 25 minutes, which to me is frighteningly short. So I feel as if I need to get into that pretty quickly and make it as practical and accessible as possible.

No matter who wins, God is still sovereign regardless if my preferred candidate wins or not.
