Some people want to see God with their eyes as they see a cow, and to love Him as they love a cow - for the milk and cheese and profit it brings them. This is how it is with people who love God for the sake of outward wealth or inward comfort. They do not rightly love God, when they love Him for their own advantage.

Therefore, look only for this fishhook, and you will be happily caught. The more you are caught, the more you will be liberated.

God is bound to act, to pour himself out (into thee) as soon as ever he shall find thee ready.

Remember this: all suffering comes to an end. And whatever you suffer authentically, God has suffered from it first.

Love is the root of all joy and sorrow.

Knowledge comes through likeness. And so because the soul may know everything, it is never at rest until it comes to the original idea, in which all things are one. And there it comes to rest in God.

I have sought earnestly and with great diligence that good and high virtue by which man may draw closest to God... and as far as my intelligence would permit, I find that high virtue to be pure disinterest, that is, detachment from creatures. Our Lord said to Martha 'Unum est necessarium', which is to say; to be untroubled and pure, one thing is necessary and that is disinterest.
