The underlying strategy of the Fed is to tell people, "Do you want your money to lose value in the bank, or do you want to put it in the stock market?" They're trying to push money into the stock market, into hedge funds, to temporarily bid up prices. Then, all of a sudden, the Fed can raise interest rates, let the stock market prices collapse and the people will lose even more in the stock market than they would have by the negative interest rates in the bank. So it's a pro-Wall Street financial engineering gimmick.
Michael HudsonAs you have to pay more interest and amortization on what you owe, you're left with less and less money to buy goods and services - unless you borrow even more and go further into debt.
Michael HudsonOn the flat tax, the more you compress the tax rates, the more you untax where the income is really made, at the top of the pyramid.
Michael HudsonIf a lot of money goes into the stock market, it'll push up prices, making money for stock speculators. Then the insiders can decide that it's time to sell out, and the market will plunge.
Michael HudsonThe establishment Trump talked about wasnโt really Wall Street. He said, โWhen Washington got rich.โ Bernie Sanders would have said, โWhen Wall Street got rich, the country didnโt.โ So I think when Donald Trump says "Washington," what he means is the government regulatory agencies.
Michael HudsonPeople have to pay so much money to the banks that they don't have enough money to buy the goods and services they produce. So there's not much new investment, there's not new employment (except minimum-wage "service" jobs), markets are shrinking, and people are defaulting. So many companies can't pay their banks.
