In order for us to be able to love, we need to have faith, because faith is love in action and love in action is service. In order for us to be able to love, we have to see and touch. Faith in action through prayer, faith in action through service: each is the same thing, the same love, the same compassion.

Once I asked my counsellor for advice about my vocation. I asked, 'How can I know if God is calling me and for what he is calling me?' He answered, 'You will know by your happiness. If you are happy with the idea that God calls you to serve him and your neighbour, this will be the proof of your vocation.'

Give, but give until it hurts.

It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us.

Let us love one another as God loves each one of us. And where does this love begin? In our own home. How does it begin? By praying together.

The beginning of prayer is silence.

Every human being in that case resembles Christ in his loneliness; and that is the hardest part, that's real hunger.
