The main rule of writing is that if you do it with enough assurance and confidence, youโre allowed to do whatever you like. (That may be a rule for life as well as for writing. But itโs definitely true for writing.) So write your story as it needs to be written. Write it honestly, and tell it as best you can. Iโm not sure that there are any other rules. Not ones that matter.

Neil GaimanWhen I was about ten my favourite article in the huge and mouldering Encyclopedia Britannica we owned (the ninth edition) was the one on Lycanthropy. (Yes, I had a favourite 1890s Britannica article when I was ten. I am now aware this is not entirely usual.)
Neil GaimanSleep my little baby-oh Sleep until you waken When you wake you'll see the world If I'm not mistaken... Kiss a lover Dance a measure, Find your name And buried treasure... Face your life Its pain, Its pleasure, Leave no path untaken.
Neil GaimanRead the books you love, tell people about authors you like, and donโt worry about it.
