A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.

We succeeded to take our last steps to freedom in conditions of relative peace. We commit ourselves to the construction of a complete, just and lasting peace. We have triumphed in the effort to implant hope in the breasts of the millions of our people.

Living isn't just about doing for yourself,but what you do for others as well.

The relations between a man and his or her god is a personal matter; you can't go out and challenge the belief of people in a superior being.

Other people have qualities that may be better than your own. Let them express them.

The majority of South Africans, black and white, recognize that apartheid has no future. It has to be ended by our own decisive mass action in order to build peace and security. The mass campaign of defiance and other actions of our organization and people can only culminate in the establishment of democracy.

In order to build our nation, we must all exceed our own expectations.
