When we read we are able to travel to many places, meet many people and understand the world.

I came to accept that I have no right whatsoever to judge others in terms of my own customs, however much I may be proud of such customs.

The Good News borne by our risen Messiah who chose not one race, who chose not one country, who chose not one language, who chose not one tribe, who chose all of humankind!

Through its imperialist system Britain brought about untold suffering of millions of people. And this is an historical fact. To be able to admit this would increase the respect, you know, which we have for British institutions.

For me, survival is the ability to cope with difficulties, with circumstances, and to overcome them.

As the years progress one increasingly realises the importance of friendship and human solidarity. And if a 90-year-old may offer some unsolicited advice on this occasion, it would be that you, irrespective of your age, should place human solidarity, the concern for the other, at the centre of the values by which you live.

It enables me to go to bed with an enriching feeling in my soul and the belief that I am changing myself.
