It never cost a disciple anything to follow Jesus; to talk about cost when you are in love with anyone is an insult.

If I obey Jesus Christ in the seemingly random circumstances of life, they become pinholes through which I see the face of God.

Am I becoming more and more in love with God as a holy God, or with the conception of an amiable Being who says, “Oh well, sin doesn’t matter much”?

We will suffer a sharp painful disullisionment before we fully surrender. When people really see themselves as the Lord sees them, it is not the terribly offensive sins of the fleshthat shock them, but the awful nature of the pride of their own hearts opposing Jesus Christ. When they see themselves in the light of the Lord, the shame, the horror, and desperate conviction hit home for them.

We have become so self-centered that we go to God only for something from Him, and not for God Himself.

Not every man can carry a full cup. Sudden elevation frequently leads to pride and a fall. The most exacting test of all to survive is prosperity.

The test of the life of a saint is not success, but faithfulness in human life as it actually is.
