Yes,โ I told him. โI think the guy playing the Pirate King was awesome.โ He stopped where he was. โWhat?โ I asked, frowning at the big smile on his face. โI didnโt say I liked the Pirate King,โ he told me. โOh.โ I closed my eyesโand there he was. A warm, edgy presence right on the edge of my perception. When I opened my eyes, he was standing right in front of me. โCool,โ I told him. โYouโre back.โ He kissed me leisurely. When he was finished, I was more than ready to head home. Fast. โYou make me laugh,โ he told me seriously.

I could have bitten off my tongue because I pushed him into a lie. Once he started lying to me, it would be harder to get him to trust me with the truth. I donโt know why it works that way, but it doesโat least in my experience.
