Now suppose both death and hell were utterly defeated. Suppose the fight was fixed. Suppose God took you on a crystal ball trip into your future and you saw with indubitable certainty that despite everything โ your sin, your smallness, your stupidity โ you could have free for the asking your whole crazy heartโs deepest desire: heaven, eternal joy. Would you not return fearless and singing? What can earth do to you, if you are guaranteed heaven? To fear the worst earthly loss would be like a millionaire fearing the loss of a penny โ less, a scratch on a penny.
Peter KreeftPrayer is like Thanksgiving dinner. It takes one hour to eat it and ten hours to prepare it.
Peter KreeftIf God is not a Trinity, God is not love. For love requires three things: a lover, a beloved, and a relationship between them.
Peter KreeftGod is love. Wraith is how His love appears to us when we sin or rebel or run away from Him. The very light that is meant to help us appears to us as our enemy when we seek the darkness.
Peter KreeftThe most total opposite of pleasure is not pain but boredom, for we are willing to risk pain to make a boring life interesting.
Peter KreeftSomeone once said that if you sat a million monkeys at a million typewriters for a million years, one of them would eventually type out all of Hamlet by chance. But when we find the text of Hamlet, we don't wonder whether it came from chance and monkeys. Why then does the atheist use that incredibly improbable explanation for the universe? Clearly, because it is his only chance of remaining an atheist. At this point we need a psychological explanation of the atheist rather than a logical explanation of the universe.
