The power of the Good has taken refuge in the nature of the Beautiful

For our discussion is on no trifling matter, but on the right way to conduct our lives.

The learning and knowledge that we have,is,at the most,but little compared with that of which we are ignorant.

Is it not also true that no physician, in so far as he is a physician, considers or enjoins what is for the physician's interest, but that all seek the good of their patients? For we have agreed that a physician strictly so called, is a ruler of bodies, and not a maker of money, have we not?

He who is gracious to his lover under the impression that he is rich, and is disappointed of his gains because he turns out to be poor, is disgraced all the same: for he has done his best to show that he would give himself up to any one's "uses base" for the sake of money; but this is not honourable.

Excess of liberty, whether it lies in state or individuals, seems only to pass into excess of slavery.

Let us affirm what seems to be the truth, that, whether one is or is not, one and the others in relation to themselves and one another, all of them, in every way, are and are not, and appear to be and appear not to be.
