The idea of being the Substitute in offering an atonement to satisfy the demands of Godโs law for others was something Christ understood as His mission from the moment He entered this world and took upon Himself a human nature. He came from heaven as the gift of the Father for the express purpose of working out redemption as our Substitute, doing for us what we could not possibly do for ourselves.
R. C. SproulPerhaps the most difficult task for us to perform is to rely on Godโs grace and Godโs grace alone for our celebration. It is difficult for our pride to rest on grace. Grace is for other peopleโfor beggars. We donโt want to live by a heavenly welfare system. We want to earn our own way and atone for our own sins. We like to think that we will go to heaven because we deserve to be there.
R. C. SproulIf there is one single molecule in this universe running around loose, totally free of Godโs sovereignty, then we have no guarantee that a single promise of God will ever be fulfilled.
