Men of God have always, from time to time, walked among men, and made their commission felt in the heart and soul of the commonest hearer.

I find nothing healthful or exalting in the smooth conventions of society. I do not like the close air of saloons. I begin to suspect myself to be a prisoner, though treated with all this courtesy and luxury. I pay a destructive tax in my conformity.

The senses interfere everywhere, and mix their own structure with all they report of.

All sensible people are selfish, and nature is tugging at every contract to make the terms of it fair.

Wit makes its own welcome, and levels all distinction. No dignity, no learning, no force of character, can make any stand against good wit. It is like ice, on which no beauty of form, no majesty of carriage, can plead any immunity; they must walk gingerly, according to the laws of ice, or down they must go, dignity and all.

Let us be poised, wise and our own today.

Because the soul is progressive, it never quite repeats itself, but in every act attempts the production of a new and fairer whole.
