Whenever a thought arises, instead of trying even a little either to follow it up or to fulfil it, it would be better to first enquire, "To whom did this thought arise?"
Ramana MaharshiThe world is so unhappy because it is ignorant of the true Self. Manโs real nature is happiness. Happiness is inborn in the true Self. Manโs search for happiness is an unconscious search for his true Self. The true Self is imperishable; therefore, when a man finds it, he finds a happiness which does not come to an end.
Ramana MaharshiSense-perceptions can only be indirect knowledge, and not direct knowledge. Only one's own awareness is direct knowledge.
Ramana MaharshiIn accordance with the prarabdha of each, the One whose function it is to ordain makes each to act. What will not happen will never happen, whatever effort one may put forth. And what will happen will not fail to happen, however much one may seek to prevent it. This is certain. The part of wisdom therefore is to stay quiet.
