I went to my first national convention in 1976, when my family supported [Ronald] Reagan over [Gerald] Ford, so we've always been Republicans, but we've always wanted the Republican Party to be the party of fiscally conservative, limited-government types. And I think, sometimes, we haven't done that as well.
Rand PaulTo understand how Republicans lost the African American vote, we must first understand how we won the African American vote.
Rand PaulNobody ever was fired for 9/11. Instead of firing the people who didn't do a good job, we gave them medals. The guy who did a good job, I don't know what happened to him. And what we did was we decided we'd just collect everybody's information. That we'd sort of scrap the Bill of Rights.
Rand PaulI don't think I've ever used the word 'gay rights,' because I don't really believe in rights based on your behavior.
Rand PaulAnd when the time is right, I hope that African Americans will again look to the party of emancipation, civil liberty, and individual freedom.
Rand PaulI believe we should work to end all racism in American society and staunchly defend the inherent rights of every person. I have clearly stated in prior interviews that I abhor racial discrimination and would have worked to end segregation. Even though this matter was settled when I was 2, and no serious people are seeking to revisit it except to score cheap political points, I unequivocally state that I will not support any efforts to repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
