Let's say tomorrow that there was a president, that we elected a president that eliminated the bulk collection of data. Let's just say it happened. What do you think would happen? People are like 'the sky would fall. We would be overrun with jihadists.' Maybe we could rely on the Constitution. Maybe we could get warrants. ... If you make the warrant specific, there's no limit to what you can get through a warrant.
Rand PaulWith regard to the idea of whether you have a right to health care, you have to realize what that implies. Itโs not an abstraction. Iโm a physician. That means you have a right to come to my house and conscript me. It means you believe in slavery. It means that youโre going to enslave not only me, but the janitor at my hospital, the person who cleans my office, the assistants who work in my office, the nurses.
Rand PaulOf strong importance to me is the defense of minority rights, not just racial minorities, but ideological and religious minorities.
Rand PaulI think if we ban certain religions, if we censor the Internet, I think that at that point the terrorists will have won.
Rand PaulIโm not for profiling people on the color of their skin or on their religion. But I would take into account where they've been traveling and perhaps you might indirectly have to take into account whether or not they've been going to radical political speeches by religious leaders. It wouldn't be that they are Islamic. But if someone is attending speeches from someone who is promoting the violent overthrow of our government, thatโs really an offense that we should be going after. They should be deported or put in prison.
Rand PaulWashington is horribly broken. We are encountering a day of reckoning and this movement, this Tea Party movement, is a message to Washington that we're unhappy and that we want things done differently.
Rand PaulI was very, very concerned about President Obama and how much executive order and how much executive power he tried to exert. But I think I want to be, and I think congress will be, a check on any executive, Republican or Democrat, that tries to grasp too much power. And really, a lot of the fault is not only presidents trying to take too much power, it's Congress giving up too much power.
