Contrary to the claims of the supporters of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the sponsors of H.Res. 676, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not improve race relations or enhance freedom. There was a time when a willingness to criticize one's own government when it was wrong was the very definition of patriotism.

To me, to be a conservative means to conserve the good parts of America and to conserve our Constitution.

In wartime, people willing to sacrifice liberty for security.

Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

Ideas are the only things that count, and politicians are, for the most part, pretty much irrelevant.
