We don't all agree on everything. I don't agree with myself on everything.

There's never any guarantee at war.

My advice would be the same advice that I gave President [George W.] Bush when he won in '04, and, kind of, wasn't followed. I think you go with the things you know you can pass.

When people endure a traumatic event, they are either defeated or made stronger. On Sept. 11, I told New Yorkers, "I want you to emerge stronger from this." My words were partially a hope and partially an observation that people in New York City handle big things better than little things. I could not be more proud of the way my city responded.

I think, for the good of the country and the fact that you don't want a question coming up every time there's a decision made, [Donald Trump] should basically take himself out of it and just be a passive participant in the sense that he has no decision-making, no involvement and no decisions get made separate from him. Which is the way the way it's done for more Cabinet offices. Or I think all Cabinet offices.

The minute Putin went into Crimea, what Obama should have done is sent 50,000 troops to NATO. He didn't have to engage them, just send them. That puts the fear of God into people.

God help this country if we're now prepared to vote for someone we don't trust. But every election cycle we do things we never dreamed of.
