The Heavenly City outshines Rome beyond comparison. There, instead of victory, is truth; instead of high rank, holiness; instead of peace, felicity; instead of life, eternity.

We are too weak to discover the truth by reason alone

Let no one flatter himself; of himself he is Satan. Let man take sin, which is his own, and leave righteousness with God.

The good man, though a slave, is free; the wicked, though he reigns, is a slave.

For God loves saving, not condemning, and therefore He is patient with bad people, in order to make good people out of bad people.

Truth is not private property.

If we are perplexed by an apparent contradiction in Scripture, it is not allowable to say, 'The author of this book is mistaken'; but either the manuscript is faulty, or the translation is wrong, or you have not understood.
