Moreover, from the time when He said, 'Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven;' and again, 'He that loseth his life for my sake shall find it; ' no one becomes a member of Christ except it be either by baptism in Christ, or death for Christ.

What grace is meant to do is to help good people, not to escape their sufferings, but to bear them with a stout heart, with a fortitude that finds its strength in faith.

For if it is not lawful to take the law into our own hands and slay even a guilty person, whose death no public sentence has warranted. Temperance is a disposition that restrains our desires for things which it is base to desire.

Your best servant is the person who does not attend so much to hearing what he himself wants as to willing what he has heard from you.
