What is grace? I know until you ask me; when you ask me, I do not know.

Cantare amantis est ... Singing belongs to one who loves." (s. 336, 1 – PL 38, 1472).

Punishment, that is the justice for the unjust.

Humility must accompany all our actions, must be with us everywhere; for as soon as we glory in our good works they are of no further value to our advancement in virtue.

To withhold forgiveness is to take poison and expect the unforgiven to die.

Now the Apostle, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says, "Knowledge inflates: but love edifies." The only correct inerpretation of this saying is that knowledge is valuable when charity informs it. Without charity, knowledge inflates; that is, it exalts man to an arrogance which is nothing but a kind of windy emptiness.
