I use both instruments with their strengths in mind. Mandolin - no sustain and attack of the right hand, for rhythm. Fiddle - use sustain of the bow and the ability to slide the non-fretted notes, like singing.

I am the age of the some of the grandparents that are bringing their young grandchildren to hear the music. I have been fortunate enough to see multiple generations of families come see my shows.

The music has to come from bluegrass first. We always said back in the 70s that if you want to play newgrass you have to go through the school of bluegrass. You know, maybe Jack Black can make a movie now called School of Bluegrass . That would be cool.

I didn't get into music to win awards. I love to play and the older I get the more I love it. And I love new things.
