I was raised on a farm in Kansas where we lived next door to my Grandma Dew, and I was her shadow. We went everywhere together - to the bank, the doctor, the Early Bird Garden Club, and to an endless procession of Church meetings.
Sheri L. DewWe no longer have the luxury of spending our energy on anything that does not lead us and our families to Christ.
Sheri L. DewWhile life is meant to test, challenge, and strengthen us, if we are attempting to negotiate the twists and turns and ups and downs of mortality alone, we're doing it all wrong. Mortality is a test, but it is an open book test. We have access not only to the divine text but to Him who authored it.
Sheri L. DewAm I the woman I think I am, the woman I want to be? More importantly, am I the woman the Savior needs me to be?
Sheri L. DewFaith is a principle of action. It is our willingness to believe in the Savior that unleashes His power in our lives. Faith is not a bulwark against tribulation, but an assurance that the Lord is overseeing all.
Sheri L. DewNoble and great. Courageous and determined. Faithful and fearless. That is who you are and who you have always been. And understanding it can change your life, because this knowledge carries a confidence that cannot be duplicated any other way.
Sheri L. DewYou were born to lead as mothers and fathers, because nowhere is righteous leadership more crucial than in the family.
Sheri L. DewYou were born to lead as mothers and fathers because nowhere is righteous leadership more crucial than in the family. You were born to lead as priesthood and auxiliary leaders, as heads of communities, companies, and even nations. You were born to lead as men and women willing 'to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places' because that's what a true leader does.
Sheri L. DewBecause again, if Lucifer can make an aberration seem normal- or better yet, evil seem normal, he has made striking inroads.
Sheri L. DewThe decisions you are making right now and that you will make in the foreseeable months and years will absolutely determine whether you pivot towards the world or towards the Lord.
Sheri L. DewThe Lord has set no limits on what He is willing to teach us and give us. We are the only ones who set limits--through our neglect our disobedience or ignorance. We are in large measure the ones who determine what we will learn and experience in mortality, and what we will receive eternally.
Sheri L. DewNo marriage or family, no ward or stake is likely to reach its full potential until husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, men and women work together in unity of purpose.
Sheri L. DewHe knows of our anguish, and He is there for us. Like the Good Samaritan in His parable, when He finds us wounded at the wayside, He binds up our wounds and cares for us (see Luke 10:34). Brothers and sisters, the healing power of His Atonement is for you, for us, for all.
Sheri L. DewSpeaking of our unkind labeling of each other with, "she is divorced, she used to be inactive, etc", asked, "Can't we get over this hardening of the categories?".
Sheri L. DewThe only way that we may overcome the world is by coming unto Christ. And coming to Christ means walking away from the world.
Sheri L. DewThe Savior empowers us with His grace, not because we've earned it, but because He loves us perfectly.
Sheri L. DewHappily, though we must each walk through life on our own, we don't have to do it alone.
Sheri L. DewIn the things that really matter--our covenants, the commandments, and following the prophet--we need to be completely united. In the non-essentials, we have our agency to handle things as we see fit. But, in all things, regardless of whether we make the same choices or not, we are to treat each other with dignity and respect, both of which are evidences of charity in our hearts and lives.
Sheri L. DewWe don't really know what we believe in or care about until what we believe in or care about is threatened, challenged, or measured.
Sheri L. DewLife is a test. It is only a test--meaning that's all it is. Nothing more, but nothing less. It is a test of our convictions and priorities, our faith and faithfulness, our patience and resilience, and in the end, our ultimate desires. It is a test to determine if we want to be part of the kingdom of God more than we want anything else.
Sheri L. DewAs daughters of our Heavenly Father, and as daughters of Eve, we are all mothers and we have always been mothers. And we each have the responsibility to love and help lead the rising generation.
Sheri L. DewThe healing power of charity, bestowed by our Father and made possible by the Atonement of Jesus Christ, can make it virtually impossible for us even to feel emotions common to the natural man.
Sheri L. DewFor the Holy Ghost blesses us with optimism and wisdom at times of challenge that we simply cannot muster on our own.
Sheri L. DewIf we don't have a clear sense of our identity and purpose, we are much more vulnerable to Lucifer. He of course knows this and accordingly attempts to blur our vision. He lies. He shades and obliterates truth. He makes evil look good and good look unenlightened and unsophisticated. Make no mistake about it: Lucifer will do anything to derail, disappoint, dishearten, discourage, and deceive usโand particularly those who have made and are seeking to keep sacred covenants. His motives are entirely self-centered, selfish, destructive, and evil.
Sheri L. DewI invite you to consider anew what you know and what you have; what you are here for and where you are going; and how you are going to do what you have come here to do. p 13
Sheri L. DewThese are the days in which a true leader wants to live. These are days when opportunities to change lives and even destinies are nearly endless. You are running the anchor leg of the relay because you were born to lead. You were born for glory.
Sheri L. DewWithout the presence of the Spirit, it is impossible to comprehend our personal mission or to have the reassurance that our course is right.
Sheri L. DewThe compelling truth of the Restoration is that the heavens are open. This Church is a Church of revelation. Our challenge is not one in getting the Lord to speak to us. Our challenge is learning to hear what He has to say.
Sheri L. DewIf you're serious about sanctification, you can expect to experience heart-wrenching moments that try your faith, your endurance, and your patience.
Sheri L. DewI know how to set an irrigation tube, and I helped with the harvest. I learned the law of the harvest without even knowing I was learning it. On the farm, you learn early that you reap what you sow.
Sheri L. DewWe just can't let the Lord down. And if the day comes when we are the only women on earth who find nobility and divinity in motherhood, so be it. For mother is the word that will define a righteous woman made perfect in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom, a woman who has qualified for eternal increase in posterity, wisdom, joy, and influence.
Sheri L. DewThere is no greater name for a leader than mother or father. There is no leadership more important than parenthood.
Sheri L. DewIts not living the gospel thats hard. Its life thats hard...How often do we make the mistake of talking to our youth about how hard it is...Shouldn't we instead be focusing on the doctrine of joy...? p 106
Sheri L. DewNo woman is a more vibrant instrument in the hands of the Lord than a woman of God who is thrilled to be who she is.
Sheri L. DewThe most effective way to share the gospel is to live it. When we live like disciples of Christ should live, when we aren't just good but happy to be good, others will be drawn to us.
Sheri L. DewI had a lot of friends who were boys. I played ball with them, but we didn't date. They didn't ask me that much because I wasn't cute enough or because I didn't drink or party.
Sheri L. DewWe must each walk through life on our own, but we don't have to do it alone. God wants a powerful people. He gives His power to those who are faithful. We have a sacred obligation to seek after the power of God and then to use that power as He directs. And when we have the power of God with us, nothing is impossible.
