Pushing the limits, to be thought provoking, pushing people to think and question the limits, it's not always bad for the rules if you're confident because it can even strengthen your understanding of religion in the process.

In fact all the Islamists, that is the reformists not the Salafis, now they all say that they want a civil state, a civil state with Islamic reference points. They are not talking about an Islamic state, or sharia in the way this was once understood in the fight against the colonisers, or just afterwards in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Saying that Islam is in heart, is similar to giving back the exam's paper completely white and saying : knowledge is in brain.

Tell me what you are doing with your suffering, and I will tell you who you are.

Just take Germany and the suffering of Jews during and after the Second World War. It would be legal to ridicule and to laugh at this suffering, but since it was such a trauma on the European conscience, no one is going to do it. It is an open scar, an open wound, an open reality.

What I'm advocating is an intellectual revolution - it's a different mindset concerning the ethical benchmarks by which we live.

You can't say 'I don't do politics,' because silence is a political statement.
