I write songs about what I go through.

I've been careful in love. I've been careless in love. And I've had adventures I wouldn't trade for anything.

Real life is a funny thing, you know. In real life, saying the right thing at the right moment is beyond crucial. So crucial, in fact, that most of us start to hesitate, for fear of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. But lately what I've begun to fear more that that is letting the moment pass without saying anything. I think most of us fear reaching the end of our life, and looking back, regretting the moments we didn't speak up. When we didn't say "I love you." When we should've said "I'm Sorry." When we didn't stand up for ourselves or some one who needed help.

I think songwriting is the ultimate form of being able to make anything that happens in your life productive.

I always wanted to know, and I always used to daydream, about what it would be like to stand on a really big stage and sing songs for a lot of people, songs that I had written... Daydreaming was kind of my No. 1 thing when I was little, because I didn't have much of a social life going on.

We were built to fall apart and fall back together.

Some of the most beautiful people in the whole world wake up some days and they don't think that they're pretty.
