Americanism means the virtues of courage, honor, justice, truth, sincerity, and hardihood - the virtues that made America.

Do not get into a fight if you can possibly avoid it. If you get in, see it through. Don't hit if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting, but never hit soft. Don't hit at all if you can help it; don't hit a man if you can possibly avoid it; but if you do hit him, put him to sleep.

Never, never, you must never either of you remind a man at work on a political job that he may be President.

Only those are fit to live who do not fear to die and none are fit to die who have shrunk from the joy of life and the duty of life.

If a strong man has not in him the lift toward lofty things, his strength makes him only a curse to himself and his neighbor.

And it is through strife and the readiness for strife that a man or a nation must win greatness. So, let the world know that we are here and willing to pour out our blood, our treasure, our tears. And that America is ready and if need be desirous of battle
