None of us makes it through this life without problems and challenges โ and sometimes tragedies and misfortunes. After all, in large part we are here to learn and grow from such events in our lives. We know that there are times when we will suffer, when we will grieve, and when we will be saddened. However, we are told, โAdam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.โ How might we have joy in our lives, despite all that we may face? Again from the scriptures: โWherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you."
Thomas S. MonsonLife's journey is not traveled on a freeway devoid of obstacles, pitfalls, and snares. Rather, it is a pathway marked by forks and turnings. Decisions are constantly before us. To make them wisely, courage is needed: the courage to say, 'No,' the courage to say, 'Yes.' Decisions do determine destiny. The call for courage comes constantly to each of us. It has ever been so, and so shall it ever be.
Thomas S. MonsonHave times really changed? Don't we today, as always, love our children and want them to live righteously? Don't we today, as always, need God's divine protecting care? Don't we today, as always, continue to be at his mercy and in his debt for the very life he has given us?
Thomas S. MonsonWhatever our calling, regardless of our fears or anxieties, let us pray and then go and do.
Thomas S. MonsonMay we muster courage at the crossroads, courage for the conflicts, courage to say, "no," courage to say, "yes," for courage counts.
Thomas S. MonsonLet me begin now, this very night, to emulate Christ. Cast off forever will be the old self and with it defeat, despair, doubt, and disbelief. To a newness of life I come--a life of faith, hope courage, and joy. No task looms too large; no responsibility too heavy; no duty is a burden. All things become possible.
