The fact that so many successful politicians are such shameless liars is not only a reflection on them, it is also a reflection on us. When the people want the impossible, only liars can satisfy.

However little president Obama knows or cares about economics, he knows a lot about politics - and especially political rhetoric. So are words like 'investment in education' or 'investment' in any number of other things, which serves the same political purpose.
