Putting our faith in Christ is not about trying harder; it means transferring our trust away from ourselves and resting in him.

If anything becomes more fundamental than God to your happiness, meaning of life, and identity then it is an idol.

Big cities have a lot of 'younger brothers' who have left traditional parts of the world and their families for a more liberal lifestyle. But cities are filled to the gills with 'elder brothers' too.

To preach the gospel is to show people their need for salvation against a backdrop of God's nature and the character of sin, and then present Jesus as the only remedy for what ails them and the world. In my weekly preaching in the worship services I always call people to believe in Christ.
