Jesus asks for far more than you ever thought, but offers more than you ever dreamed.

The Christian Gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less.

The best things that have been written, almost, are by Catholics during the counter Reformation: Ignatius of Loyola, St. Francis de Sales, John of the Cross, St. Theresa of Бvila.....great stuff.

Grace is humbling and restorative. It pulls you down because Christ had to die for you, but also lifts you up because he wanted to die for you.

Secularism and Religion are both all about your personal performance. The Gospel is the performance of another applied to you.

Prayer-though it is often draining, even an agony-is in the long term the greatest source of power that is possible.

When you experience God it is deeply personal, but it's not at all private.
