God’s grace does not come to people who morally outperform others, but to those who admit their failure to perform and who acknowledge their need for a Savior.

The early church was strikingly different from the culture around it in this way - the pagan society was stingy with its money and promiscuous with its body. A pagan gave nobody their money and practically gave everybody their body. And the Christians came along and gave practically nobody their body and they gave practically everybody their money.

The very fact that we have access to God's attention and presence should concentrate the thoughts and elevate the heart.

If you want God's grace, all you need is need, all you need is nothing. But that kind of spiritual humility is hard to muster. We come to God saying, "Look at all I've done," or maybe "Look at all I've suffered." God, however, wants us to look to him - to just wash.

Important reminder: It's not fair of you to demand more proof of Christians for their beliefs than you demand for your own.

If you don't love the poor, you don't know what God's done for you.

The world is a dark place, and yet the coming of Jesus Christ shows us no one and nothing is hopeless.
