Timothy KellerChristianity teaches that, contra fatalism, suffering is overwhelming; contra Buddhism, suffering is real; contra karma, suffering is often unfair; but contra secularism, suffering is meaningful. There is a purpose to it, and if faced rightly, it can drive us like a nail deep into the love of God and into more stability and spiritual power than you can imagine.

Timothy KellerJust because you cannot realize your highest aspirations in work does not mean you have chosen wrongly, or are not called to your profession, or that you should spend your life looking for the perfect career that is devoid of frustration. ... Timothy KellerWhen Jesus looked down from the cross, he didn't think โI am giving myself to you because you are so attractive to me.โ No, he was in agony, and he looked down at us - denying him, abandoning him, and betraying him - and in the greatest act of love in history, he STAYED. He said, โFather, forgive them, they don't know what they are doing.โ He loved us, not because we were lovely to him, but to make us lovely.
