I've always seen the songs as having a consciousness. Since I was two-and-a-half they would come to me from nowhere. I never thought that I was conjuring them by myself, and I was always grateful they would come and visit... They've always been very much alive. They don't have a physical body like we do but there seems to be an awareness.
Tori AmosWhen one doesnโt want the limelight, but is also creative in developing whatever it is they are, then you can have two equal people that arenโt competing against each other. I think when you are in the same field, itโs difficult to leave it outside and not compete. Then when the doors are closed, that pervades everything.

Tori AmosIn order for my live performance to work, which is about generating a focused energy for about an hour and a half, it is necessary for me to listen and take in someone else's focused energy the day of or the day before the live show. That can transpire through a conversation, or inspiration can occur by looking through any type of visual book which sparks a narrative. That narrative then becomes today's seed and can then take root in music terms, where a sonic tree begins to grow.
