The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.
Wendell BerryFrom a human point of view, the difference between the mind of a human and that of a mountain goat is wonderful; from the point of view of the infinite ignorance that surrounds us, the difference is not impressive. Wendell BerryAnalogies have tied things together for me, personally. The fundamental one for me is the analogy between your relationship to your spouse and your relationship to your place. Both need to be a settled commitment and both involve continuous learning and adjusting.
Wendell BerryNature is always trying to tell us that we are not so superior or independent or alone or autonomous as we may think.
Wendell BerryNo individual life is an end in itself. One can live fully only by participating fully in the succession of the generations, in death as well as in life.
