It is my ambition to be, as a private individual, abolished and voided from history, leaving it markless.
William FaulknerIf we Americans are to survive it will have to be because we choose and elect and defend to be first of all Americans; to present to the world one homogeneous and unbroken front, whether of white Americans or black ones or purple or blue or green... If we in America have reached that point in our desperate culture when we must murder children, no matter for what reason or what color, we don't deserve to survive, and probably won't.
William Faulkner. . .in August in Mississippi thereโs a few days somewhere about the middle of the month when suddenly thereโs a foretaste of fall, itโs cool, thereโs a lambence, a soft, a luminous quality to the light, as though it came not from just today but from back in the old classic times. It might have fauns and satyrs and the gods and---from Greece, from Olympus in it somewhere. It lasts just for a day or two, then itโs gone. . .the title reminded me of that time, of a luminosity older than our Christian civilization.
