Segregation is not humiliating but a benefit...

Remember that God ordained that I should be the next president of the United States. Neither you nor any other mortal or mortals could have prevented this.

Tolerance is an admirable intellectual gift; but it is of little worth in politics.

It is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war, into the most terrible and disastrous of all wars, civilizationitself seeming to be in the balance. But the right is more precious than peace, and we shall fight for the things we have always carried closest to our hearts.

While we are fighting for freedom, we must see, among other things, that labor is free.

Government is merely an attempt to express the conscience of everybody, the average conscience of the nation, in the rules that everybody is commanded to obey. That is all it is.

The light that shined upon the summit now seems almost to shine at our feet.
