There are so many clichés taken from movies, books or from some great thinker. Well-wishers quote them to us whenever it's hardest, and they sometimes sound like empty, rote phrases.
But have you thought about the power of clichés? I've picked 10 of the truest clichés about life, love, friendship and courage for you.
Try to abstract yourself from the fact that you are bored of them and you will realize their genius. Remind yourself of them whenever you need to.
1. "Learn to love yourself so that others will love you". The fact is, no one will ever like you if you don't like yourself. Exception - your mother. Learn to love and appreciate yourself and you'll be surprised how quickly you'll find yourself surrounded by people who love you too.
2. "The definition of stupid - doing the same thing several times and expecting a different result!" Same mistake, same inappropriate man/woman, same compromises, same job. And finally - why doesn't anything change? Think again.
3. "It is darkest before dawn". They say that when you hit rock bottom, you have no other way but up. There's logic, don't you think?
4. "You will never cross the ocean if you don't have the courage to break away from the shore". And Christopher Columbus said it himself, or so it is claimed. The conclusion is that to live this life we must be courageous. Fear of change is for the losers.
5. "Be the change you want to see in the world". Mahatma Gandhi said it. If you don't like something - change it or at least try. Defeatist and resigned thinking is for the weak.
6. "The truth is that everyone will hurt you. You just have to find those people who are worth suffering for". Bob Marley's wisdom. Sad, but true.
7. "If you love someone, let them go. If they love you, they'll come back to you. If they don't, then they never loved you". Proven a million times over. You can't forcibly keep a person by your side. And you don't need such a person. So, learn to let people go and always hope they will come back.
8. "It's stupid to make plans for your whole life when you're not even the master of tomorrow". No matter how much you overthink things, not everything is up to you. And don't delay happiness, live this life right now!
9. "Don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone". The phrase of singer and pianist Andy Biersack is very sad, but also very true. In the most difficult moments, it is possible to find yourself alone, especially when there is something important and significant to stand for.
10. "I'd rather regret the things I've done than the things I haven't". When you're in a dilemma about whether or not to do something significant with your life... do it. Take that step, with hope for a better life. In whatever aspect that may be. Even if you fail, at least you will have tried. And one regrets most when one has not tried.
