I became an actress because my mom wanted me to become an actress. It took me until my mid-30s to realize I actually didn’t. I actually wanted to write and direct and be more involved in politics and humanitarian issues.

Make bold choices and make mistakes. It's all those things that add up to the person you become.

I'm very careful with my emotions, and I don't let them run free. If I'm upset, it's usually for a very good, very deep reason.

I never like being touched, ever. People used to say I held my breath when they were hugging me. I still do.

I thought I'd become a funeral director when I wasn't going to be an actor. I thought I would be good at helping some people with the grieving process and with trying to get them to talk about and understand who this person was.
